Walker Johnson and Andy
Morton were born in the same year, on the same day, and in the same
hospital in Maryville, Tennessee. Rumor has it that the moment Walker
was born his first scream was matched in perfect
harmony by Morton who was already waiting in the nursery.
Later the two sang in church choirs together,
graduated from high school together, and attended the University of
Tennessee together. During those years, Walker and Andy both played in
local groups or solo, but never found the opportunity to work
together. After graduating from college Walker began his career in
radio in the Knoxville area while Andy headed to Memphis to pursue his
career in Architecture.
Both continued their
interest in music by playing in local groups in their respective areas
over the next thirty years. During the years between graduation and 2001
the Maryville High School Class of ‘66 had
numerous class reunions. Andy came to Maryville from his home in
Memphis with great stories about his music and his groups. At each
reunion Walker and Andy talked about getting together someday to play.
That someday finally arrived
at the end of 2001 when Andy moved to a mountain in East Tennessee
less than 35 miles from Walker’s driveway. Once again the two ran into
each other at their high school reunion. As they had on several
previous occasions, they began discussing the possibility of getting
together to play music. Now that 400 miles no longer separated them,
they had run out of excuses to not give it a try.
First time out they both knew
the music would work, all it would take would be melding the
individual styles and finding a job. They knew they could draw on
their common background in folk music and both had the desire to
inject their love for comedy into both the music as well as into the
overall act. The product is a culmination of Walker’s old folk
style with Andy’s Memphis blues/country attitude.

Walker and Andy - bringing a
combination of off-the-wall fun songs and folk songs bound together
with the comedy of a morning radio show veteran and the cynicism of a
burned out architect that has their audiences coming for the music and
staying for the laughs.
Walker and Andy – 112 years
of solo and duo howling now
refined into a unique and fun experience.
Walker and Andy - The CD is
good, the show is great. Experience them both!!
